- International Corporate Reporting (20 credits)
The module is designed to provide an overview of corporate reporting practices. Students will learn the fundamentals of financial reporting (bookkeeping) and explore the main elements of financial statements and the key issues currently facing the accounting profession. - Accounting for Performance and Control (20 credits)
In this module, students will learn different cost and costing methods, and cost management for strategic decision-making. Students will also learn to analyse complex issues arising from the budgetary process. The module develops analytical skills covering both financial and non-financial performance measurement techniques. - Strategic Financial Management and Modelling (20 credits) Using software such as Microsoft Excel, students learn to build income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow forecasts; and develop more complex models involving discounted cash flows and sensitivity analysis. The module also equips students to examine various financial management areas that help support the business strategy, such as the valuation of financial instruments, portfolio analysis and management of working capital.
- Audit, Ethics, and Corporate Governance (20 credits) The module covers corporate governance concepts and theories, examining internal and external mechanisms like auditing to resolve agency problems. It also explores the philosophical and sociological context of business ethics and corporate social responsibility; and ethical frameworks for analysing contemporary business policies and practices.
- Corporate Finance and Global Financial Market (20 credits) This module is designed to equip students with the knowledge to critically assess the challenges and opportunities of doing business internationally and at the corporate level. It aims to educate students on maximising the firm’s value through investment, financing, capital structure, dividend policy, and corporate reorganisation.
- Research Methods for Accounting and Finance (20 credits) This module develops students’ knowledge of effective research design, guiding literature reviews, research problem definition, and ethical considerations. It ensures an advanced understanding of qualitative and quantitative methods in Accounting and Finance, enhances data analysis skills, and assists in crafting effective research designs and successful research proposals.
- Option 1: Business Research Project (60 credits)
This module is designed to develop the research skills, knowledge and confidence in designing, developing, compiling and delivering strategic business projects. The student will investigate and produce recommendations for a practical business project. Students will undertake the data collection and write up their dissertation. - Option 2: Business Professional Practice (60 credits) This module is designed to put theory into practice within a real-world setting across and within Sectors: local, national and global. The module will enable students to develop their skills and knowledge, both specialist and transferable, enhancing their employability while working on a project. The Msc Information Technology course employs face to face large and small group delivery and activities supported by the use of Aula Virtual Learning Environment.
